WB Wants 'LEGO Batman' Director to Make Serious 'Nightwing' Movie

While all of the films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe seem to exist in a tonally consistent world, Warner Brothers' DC Expanded Universe is turning into a special kind of hydra with eight different heads all speaking different languages and all designed by different people. With The LEGO Batman Movie being the first film in a long time featuring the caped crusader that has both audiences and critics under its spell, it's easy to see why the studio would want to parlay some of that success into their DCEU by hiring that film's director to make a real comic book movie.

That's right folks, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Brothers has offered the job to direct a Nightwing movie to Chris McKay, the man at the helm of TLBM. It's doubtful that they're looking to capture that same tone with a movie about grown-up Dick Grayson fighting crime, so they're basically hiring a guy who's great at comedy to direct a movie about a trapeze artist turned crime fighter that's not a comedy. Great idea again DC! Man, you guys are just killing it lately over there.

So how do we know this isn't going to be a comedy? Well, because nothing else in the DCEU is a comedy and they've hired Bill Dubuque to write the script, whose writing credits include the decidedly unfunny The Judge and The Accountant. The more DC tries to change, the more they just stay exactly the same.
